It was a short night

The one whose face you cannot see,
Who comes in a pack of identicals,
Would you invite him in to your home?
Would you love him, are you radical?

The pack storms down the alley,
With their roaring engines,
And their spotlights wandering.

You cannot see their faces,
But are they equally scared?
Is that why they hide their faces?
Is that why they roam in packs?
Is that why they carry black snakes?
Is that why they dress in green?

If for you they were coming,
What would you do?
Would you be frightened?
Would you be scared?
Would you fight them?
Would you hate them?
Could you love them?

Helpless you sit in a room with others,
Peering out the window,
Trying to find out what the pack is doing out there.

Boom! Boom!

Huge explosion down the street,
The night sky lights up,
An anguishing second of gasping and fear.
Are you next?

The spotlight shines in your eyes.
Move away from the window,
The black snakes are looking at you.
Hissing… they watch ready to bite.

A flame shrieks across the street,
Extinguishing on the pavement.
Screaming and yelling.
But you sit there helpless.
Are you hopeless?

The pack rushes into the blue light doors.
After some noise and confusion,
They emerge from the blue light doors,
With a man dressed in white,
Hand-cuffed, and blindfolded.

The pack devours three others,
Then slyly they slither off
With their black snakes in hand,
With their engines roaring.

“This happens all the time,” says Ali.
“It was a short night.”
“This night was short.”

i should probably apologize to meg, since all my comments will be directed towards adam and peder. Yet I am sure that meg is just as worthy of all the praise you two are getting. I second dan's thoughts. I am very proud of you guys. Your boldness is to be recognized and appreciated.

1) Cooool blog. Well done. Tell me, how d'you get that many visitors to it in 3 days? Do you just have that many readers or contacts between the 3 of you, or what? I've been blogging for 3 months now & get 20-30 viewers per day, despite (as you know) a lot of work on the blog.
2) Nodar took off to Ushguli yesterday w/a TV crew; today's some important day there, prayers & animal sacrifice, &c. He told them about his Svan-crazy British friend & now they want to interview me - BEFORE the walk! Ara, afterwards, I think. Let us survive it first. (We leave on Saturday for Etseri.) Anyway, Nodar & Sergo (both in Ushguli now) say a big gamarjoba to you.
3) Praying for your safety & an eye-opening, life-changing experience.

Blessings,
the Tone

mark and dan, thanks for keeping up on our blog. we all appreciate the encouragement.

tony, i'm not sure exactly how we got so many visitors in such a short time. I sent out a emails to friends about it, and perhaps they told their friends too. you're blog is pretty awesome though, very complete, very documented, very good.

when you see nodar, sergo and luara send them my greetings. and yes, i suggest it would be best to do the interview after the Walk through svaneti. but maybe if you do one before, then you'll get another interview after. Thanks for everything Tone
